National carmaker, Proton Holdings Bhd, believes that the new model to replace the Proton Waja and a facelift model will be launched in December, will increase sales of cars of protons in the year.
Managing director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said the facelift model will be introduced in the Kuala Lumpur International Automotive Exhibition 2010 in early December.
"The new models will make changes to the higher sales this year," he told reporters after the launch of occupational safety and health campaign on the road and in the workplace today.
Syed Zainal Abidin said the soft launch for the new models will be held after the Hari Raya holidays Aidilfitri.
"We made a trial production, installation and testing on the road," he said.
Asked about the facelift model, Syed Zainal Abidin refused to name the model.
"Face-lift, let it be refused, but I can tell you that this is one of the most popular cars and from what I saw, face lift gives a much better look in the current range of the proton model," he said.
He said Proton set an ambitious goal to sell 170,000 cars a proton in the 2010-2011 fiscal year.
"While we are on track and we hope that the two new models will give more momentum for us, as we always offer competitive prices on the model of the proton," he said.
Proton on RM104.647 million more pre-tax profit for the first quarter of the fiscal year ending June 30, 2010 from RM64.379 million in the same quarter last year.

Syed Zainal Abidin also said Proton was talking to 5 banks to improve the funding packages for customers, suppliers and distributors.
"We are special packages for a stay of payments and interest rates," he said.
Proton intends to offer flexible and low interest rates vis-à 4,1% and 4,2% at the present time, "he says.
